Community High School District 155 is looking for a long term substitute school counselor. The anticipated start date is October 13, 2020. There are no benefits associated with this position but the District will pay 50% of TRS. Please review the general job description below.
JOB TITLE: School Counselor
REPORTS TO: Student Services Coordinator
QUALIFICATIONS:
- State of Illinois licensure with school support personnel (school counselor) endorsement
- Ability to work cooperatively with all stakeholders
- Ability to develop and carry through effective programming
- Ability to communicate effectively
- Attention to detail
- Computer literacy and competency in use of existing technology
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Adhere to and support Board policy, school guidelines, administrative rules and procedures
- Make him/herself available to all students seeking guidance and counseling services
- Advocate for the students and the students’ families
- Take necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students
- Facilitate outreach efforts to provides services to students, parent/guardian, and staff
- Connect students, parent/guardian, and staff with specialized referral agencies
- Understand, evaluate, and interpret academic performance data and interpret the information to the students, parent/guardian, and/or staff
- Implement both individual and group counseling methods that are appropriate
- Conduct career and educational planning activities
- Participate in in-service activities
- Submit the required documents in a precise and consistent manner
- Submit required reports in both a prompt and accurate manner
- Schedule students in classes
- Consult with students, parent/guardian to assist students with academic and career planning
- Meet individually with students on case load to develop a career plan
- Assist students with scholarship, college entrance, and financial aid applications
- Work with staff and students during testing cycles
- Other duties as assigned by the Student Services Coordinator
